Though the enemy is somewhat intelligent, as long as you lay low and stay undetected they will soon forget you exist. When one enemy catches sight of a fallen comrade, some will go on high alert but it seems not everyone in the enemy base gets the memo. Responsive controls allow you to quickly hide from enemies when you are almost caught, and deaths are inevitable but easy to bounce back from. Higher numbers of this criterion negatively impact one’s rank, so try not to die too often, if it can be helped.Generally the game is forgiving of your mistakes and so is great for trying different ways to finish your missions. Instead of losing a mission after one’s character dies, players respawn at the starting point, though, each time this happens, it will add to the Player Respawn counter. Keeping this number as low as possible, preferably at 0, will help one obtain an S-rank easier as a Spirit. Knocking out whoever spotted the player will not undo being discovered, so be sure to act stealthily in every mission. This is the number of times that a player is discovered.
Be careful not to accidentally kill guards by throwing their unconscious bodies into water or off ledges, as this will affect a few of the above-mentioned criteria negatively if one is trying to be as Spirit-like as possible. This can be considered the opposite side of the coin from Hostiles Killed. Players will want to keep this number as high as possible to preserve their passive playthrough as a Spirit. This criterion does not matter as much as Hostiles Killed and Hostiles Alive for S-rank on a Spirit playthrough, however, it does positively affect the chances. Even killing a single guard will drop one’s rank to A or lower, depending on other factors involved with that particular kill. The quicker one finished the level, the easier it will be to attain S-rank, regardless of playstyle.
